A debate State of Mind

A broken down biodiesel bus will not stop Power Vote for taking our call for clean and just energy to the debates!

Very early yesterday morning one of Energy Action’s founders, Kassie Rohrbach, and I began our 22 day tour of the Presidential and Vice Presidential debates. Our first day was filled with adventure, good people, a compost toilet, threats of a debate delay, and a massive shortage of gas in Western North Carolina. Check out our investigative report on YouTube soon.

We picked up the fabulous Jodie Van Horn in Charlotte and headed to pick up our WINDMILLS!!! We drove up the winding roads of the Pigsah National Forest near Asheville to a small community. In less than two weeks Matt, a wonderful artist and activist, designed and built 30 beautiful 9 foot windmills for our tour. They look better than I ever could have imagined.

We spent the evening learning about hollers and how to put the windmills together. We talked about the extreme draught that threatens their land and about the recent action Matt was a part of in Wise County to challenge Dominion Power’s coal plant expansion. A great night and a perfect start to our adventure.

Writing this on the road headed to get a big breakfast with Liz Veazey, who heads up the Southern Energy Network and is a critical part of making Power Vote such a rocking success in the Southeast.

We’ll be getting into Oxford, Mississippi later today to get ready for the first debate (and windmill installation) tomorrow.

Stay tuned at PowerVote.org
